Very nice post Cathy. To grow indoors, mold needs moisture and food. Moisture is the most important factor influencing mold growth indoors. Controlling indoor moisture helps limit mold growth. Mold does not need a lot of water to grow. A little condensation, in a bathroom or around a window sill, for example, can be enough.

Cathy,
Thanks for a very informative post on mold. We recently found a serious problem with black mold in our crawl space at our lake home at Woodlake in Vass, NC. We ended up having a contractor who specializes in toxic mold removal address and fix the problem. Our insulation had to be replaced, the floor joists and footings scrubbed with bleach, a new foundation drain system installed, a new vapor barrier installed, and 3 crawl space fans were installed to circulate the air. Yes, the problem is now fixed but it would have been far easier and less expensive to heed your advice and be proactive. Thanks again for a great post.
